In the context of strengthening relations between Ukraine and African countries, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba had a call with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Geoffrey Onyeama.
The ministers discussed steps to intensify political dialogue, increase trade, revive cooperation in the field of education, and strengthen cooperation within international organizations.
They agreed to hold next round of political consultations at the level of deputy foreign ministers in the near future.
Dmytro Kuleba stressed the interest of Ukrainian business in the implementation of infrastructure, energy and agricultural projects in Nigeria. Geoffrey Onyeama supported the proposal of the Ukrainian Minister to hold a bilateral business forum in the near future.
Finally, the Foreign Minister of Ukraine invited his Nigerian counterpart to pay a visit to Ukraine.
For reference: in 2020, the volume of trade in goods and services between Ukraine and Nigeria amounted to USD 86.2 million. The positive balance for Ukraine amounted to USD 78.3 million. In the first quarter of 2021, the volume of trade in goods and services amounted to USD 30.68 million.
As of January 1, 2021, 4379 citizens of Nigeria were studying in the Free Economic Zone of Ukraine.
