Dmytro Kuleba: India decided to provide Ukraine with 30,000 tablets of medication with potential to help treat COVID-19
15 April 2020 18:55

The Government of India decided to provide Ukraine with a free batch of 30,000 Hydroxychloroquine tablets. According to some experts, the medication has a high potential to help fight against COVID-19.

The decision was preceded by a meeting of Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba with the Ambassador of India to Ukraine Partha Satpathy in early April.

“I would like to offer sincere gratitude to the Government of India for their assistance. Despite the active ban on Hydroxychloroquine exports, our Indian friends have made this decision, important for Ukraine,” Dmytro Kuleba said.

When the medication arrives in Ukraine, it will be delivered to to the Ministry of Healthcare of Ukraine, which will in turn distribute it among medical facilities in Ukraine.

Background: The Ministry of Healthcare of Ukraine put Hydroxychloroquine on the COVID-19 treatment protocol. At the same time, the Ministry of Healthcare warns that the medication is not suited for self-administration and can only be prescribed by doctors. The effectiveness of Hydroxychloroquine in the treatment of patients with COVID-19 is now being thoroughly studied in many countries, including the United States and the EU.
