On April 16, 2020, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba had a phone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The Head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, in pursuance of the agreements reached during the recent telephone conversation of the leaders of Ukraine and the UAE on April 13, 2020, stressed the readiness to intensify cooperation in the investment, trade and economic spheres between Ukraine and UAE: “We should concentrate our efforts on implementing investment projects in the priority spheres. We shall work to synergize capabilities of Ukraine and the UAE to strengthen global food security”.
Dmytro Kuleba thanked the UAE for the provided humanitarian assistance as well as for the facilitation of bringing back home more than 3 thousand Ukrainian citizens from both the UAE and other regions of the world via the UAE.
“We are very grateful to the UAE for the humanitarian assistance, which is extremely important for Ukrainian medics to fight COVID-19. The Emirates demonstrate partnership and true friendship”, underlined the Minister.
The Head of the MFA of Ukraine invited his Emirati counterpart to visit Ukraine.
For reference: on April 10, 2020, a flight of Emirati airline “Etihad Airways” delivered to Boryspil International Airport 11 tons of humanitarian aid from the UAE. This flight also returned home 113 Ukrainian citizens.
The UAE is one of the biggest trade partners of Ukraine in the Gulf. Bilateral trade in goods and services in 2019 surpassed 1 bln USD.
On April 13, 2020, the telephone conversation between the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Crown Prince of Abu-Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed forces of the UAE Sheikh Muhammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan took place.
