On September 15, 2020, First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mrs. Emine Dzhaparova received Ambassador of Iraq to Ukraine Bakir Ahmed Aziz Al-Jaff on his request.
Emine Dzhaparova informed Ambassador of Iraq about numerous human rights violations on the territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea temporarily occupied by Russia, and stressed that the militarization of the Peninsula threatens regional and global security.
She also noted Ukraine’s plans to inaugurate “Crimean platform” that should strengthen Crimean issue on the international agenda.
They also discussed the issue of Ukrainian-Iraqi cooperation within the framework of international organizations.
During the meeting, the two sides acknowledged the necessity of intensification of the high-level political dialogue.
Emine Dzhaparova confirmed the readiness of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba to receive his Iraqi colleague and emphasized the interest of the Ukrainian side in holding the political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both countries.
Interlocutors expressed the mutual interest in further development of trade, economic and military-technical cooperation and noted positive outcome of the Iraqi Defence Minister’s visit to Ukraine on 2-6 of September, 2020. Ambassador of Iraq Bakir Al-Jaff expressed his hope that “the visit would open a new page in the development of partnership between the two countries in the defence sphere”.
Emine Dzhaparova and Bakir Al-Jaff also discussed the possibility of holding in Kyiv the next session of the Ukrainian-Iraqi Joint Comission on trade, economy, scientific and technical cooperation in the first half of 2021.
Having in mind the intensified human and business ties between Ukraine and Iraq, First Deputy Minister stressed the importance of creation of the efficient bilateral legal mechanisms aimed at due protection of the rights and interests of Ukrainian and Iraqi citizens abroad.
