First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Emine Dzhaparova met with Etienne de Poncins, Ambassador of the French Republic to Ukraine.
They discussed the priorities of cooperation in protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, strengthening international efforts aimed at de-occupation of Crimea, as well as human rights violations in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and strengthening of security in the Black and Azov Seas.
They also stressed the importance of the continued joint efforts to counter effectively Russia's attempts to spread disinformation threatening Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The First Deputy Minister drew the Ambassador's attention to the inadmissibility of contacts between French citizens and representatives of the Russian occupation administration in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. In this regard, Emine Dzhaparova requested an official reaction of France to the illegal visit to Crimea of a delegation of French MEPs led by Thierry Mariani. Ambassador de Poncins reaffirmed the unwavering support by the French Republic of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, including in the framework of the UN and other international organizations, and assured that he would forward the First Deputy Minister’s request to the French Foreign Ministry.
Emine Dzhaparova also stressed the illegitimacy of the vote on amendments to the Russian constitution, organized by the Russian occupation administration in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine, the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, and the city of Sevastopol, as well as of any other so-called referenda or voting in Ukraine’s territories temporarily occupied by Russia.
The First Deputy Minister and the Ambassador exchanged views on the preparation of future bilateral political contacts, particularly such as visit of President of France Emmanuel Macron to Kyiv at the invitation of Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
They agreed on the need to intensify bilateral trade, economic, and investment cooperation, as well as further steps to implement joint Ukraine-French projects. They also confirmed mutual interest in holding a meeting of the bilateral economic commission as soon as the epidemiological situation permits.
Emine Dzhaparova thanked France for the assistance in the socio-economic reconstruction of the eastern regions of Ukraine affected by Russian aggression.
She also asked the French side to consider providing assistance to the regions of Ukraine that had suffered from severe flooding.
The French Ambassador praised Ukraine’s accession to the Biarritz Partnership for Gender Equality, a G7 initiative led by French President Emmanuel Macron.
