Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba had a phone conversation with Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Ayman Al-Safadi. 

Dmytro Kuleba and Ayman Al-Safadi discussed the intensification of Ukraine-Jordan relations and stressed the importance of maintaining a regular political dialogue between the two countries. The ministers agreed to hold political consultations between the foreign ministries in the nearest future.

The parties paid special attention to the development of trade as well as the important role of Ukrainian exports in strengthening the food security of Jordan.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister proposed to resume regular meetings of the Joint Ukrainian-Jordanian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation in 2021.

Ayman Al-Safadi supported a proposal by Dmytro Kuleba to send a delegation of Jordanian business to Ukraine to get acquainted with the opportunities provided by our state for mutually beneficial trade and investment.

A separate topic of conversation was Jordanian students obtaining education at Ukrainian universities.

The parties discussed recent developments in the MENA region and further interaction between Ukraine and Jordan within the framework of international organizations.

The ministers exchanged invitations to pay mutual visits after the normalization of the epidemiological situation.

The previous session of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Jordan took place in 2011.

For 11 months of 2020, Ukrainian exports to the Kingdom increased by 8.3% compared to the same period in 2019 and amounted to USD 167,686 million. 

The major items of Ukrainian exports are grain (37%), ferrous metals (20.3%), fats and oils of animal or vegetable origin (17.6%). 

The major items of the imports from Jordan to Ukraine are fertilizers (32.5%), pharmaceuticals (23.2%) and inorganic chemicals (10.4%).
