On May 17, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Iryna Borovets participated in the 133rd Session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg (France). This event was a significant occasion, bringing together representatives of the foreign ministries of the Council of Europe member states in light of the 75th anniversary of its founding.

Iryna Borovets expressed her deep gratitude for the unwavering support that the Council of Europe, its Member States, and Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić have provided during these challenging times for our country. She emphasized the importance of Russia’s exclusion from this esteemed body, the creation of the Register of Damages, steadfast support for President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Peace Formula, measures aimed at protecting Ukrainian children, and concrete steps towards establishing a Special International Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine.

Iryna Borovets also called for concrete and decisive actions to enhance mechanisms for documenting crimes against the Ukrainian people and to expedite the establishment of the Special Tribunal. These steps are crucial for restoring justice.

The Deputy Minister expressed gratitude to all those who are helping millions of Ukrainians endure the suffering caused by the full-scale war. She also thanked all donors who have made it possible to implement projects within the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine for 2023-2026.

Iryna Borovets acknowledged the effectiveness of Liechtenstein's Chairmanship in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe over the past six months and welcomed the upcoming Lithuanian Chairmanship, which will coordinate the work of the Committee of Ministers in the next half-year. The Lithuanian people remain true friends and reliable partners of Ukraine in countering Russian aggression. Therefore, we especially appreciate that the Lithuanian Chairmanship has identified the protection of Ukraine as a key task of its tenure in the Council of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

Concluding her speech, Iryna Borovets noted that on May 18, Ukraine commemorates the victims of the 1944 deportation and genocide of the Crimean Tatar people. She expressed hope that only Ukraine’s victory and the liberation of Crimea can put an end to the systematic oppression of the Crimean Tatars and restore respect for human rights.
