The Government of the Republic of Latvia has decided to suspend the operation of the «Vientuli» and «Pededze» border crossing points on the Latvian-Russian border from October 16, 2023.
According to the Latvian side, this step was taken in response to the restrictions imposed by the Russian Federation on Ukrainian citizens entering its territory from third countries. The Latvian border crossing points of «Vientuli» and «Pededze» do not have the proper infrastructure to cope with the projected increase in passenger traffic.
In this regard, starting from October 16, 2023, Ukrainian citizens will be allowed to enter Russia from third countries only at the «Sheremetyevo» air crossing point across the Russian state border (Moscow).
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine renews its recommendations to Ukrainian citizens to abstain from visiting the territory of the aggressor state and to take into account the impossibility of entering Russia from Latvia.
The departure of Ukrainian citizens from the territory of the Russian Federation to Latvia remains possible through the «Ubylinka-Grebnevo» and «Burachki-Terekhova» border crossing points.
