It is surprising that the Russian Foreign Ministry demonstrated its interest with regard to the fate of Mr. Andrei Kosiak only on the sixth day after his detention.
It worth reminding that the member of the armed formations of the Russian Federation was detained on October 13 near Zolote in Luhansk region. Under the guise of humanitarian demining works, he conducted photo and video recording of the positions left by the Armed Forces of Ukraine within the area of disengagement of forces and hardware. These actions by the member of the Russian armed formations grossly violated the additional measures to strengthen the ceasefire of 22 July 2020, which prohibit offensive, reconnaissance and sabotage operations.
Such a level of belated concern clearly demonstrates Russia's attitude not only to the citizens of other countries, whom Russia has been killing and torturing for seven years in a row as well as depriving them, as of recently, of a basic access to assistance from COVID-19 coronavirus disease by blocking the entry-exit crossing points between the government controlled areas and the temporarily occupied territories, but also to people with Russian passports.
We hope that the residents of Donbas, on whom Russia has illegally imposed its citizenship, will finally understand – they are of no interest to Moscow, and the care it promised to them has nothing to do with reality. Russia is interested in only one thing: issuing a passport and sending to a war. They are cynically used and forgotten.
We expect that the Russian side - with the same persistence - will fulfill its obligations under the Consular Convention in the territory of Russia, stop systematic violations of the terms relating to provision of information about detention of Ukrainian citizens, and ensure unimpeded consular access to them.
