On April 27, an interagency meeting on "The Phenomenon of Ukrainian Monumental Art of the Second Half of the 20th Century in the Global Context" was held at the Hennadii Udovenko Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine at the MFA. The meeting was chaired by Mariana Betsa, Deputy Foreign Minister and Chairperson of the National Commission of Ukraine for UNESCO.

The event was held in a round-table format with a view to discussing the initiative of the Secretariat of the National Commission of Ukraine for UNESCO to include the phenomenon of Ukrainian monumental art of the second half of the 20th century in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

In her address, Mariana Betsa emphasized: "Today, in the conditions of the ongoing aggression of the RF, monumental art has come under an unprecedented threat. We have already lost some works as a result of Russian aggression, and some remain in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. Today’s event is intended to direct our joint efforts toward returning Ukrainian monumental art to its rightful place — both in the national narrative and in the global cultural context".

The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Ministry of Culture, the National Council of Television and Radio Broadcasting, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Kyiv City State Administration, law enforcement agencies, the artistic community, and expert circles. In their reports, they highlighted the importance of monumental art in today's realities, the inseparability of monumental art and architecture, and the contribution of the national school of monumental art to world culture.

The interagency meeting laid the foundation for further structured work on the protection of Ukrainian monumental art of the second half of the 20th century, as well as the formation of a holistic policy for the promotion of this phenomenon in Ukraine and abroad.
