On March 18, Deputy Foreign Minister, President of the National Commission of Ukraine for UNESCO Mariana Betsa took part in the presentation of the project “Preserving Ukraine’s Jewish documentary heritage, honouring collective memory, enhancing knowledge and access to archives while promoting intercultural dialogue.” The project will be implemented by UNESCO and financed by the EU.

In her address, Mariana Betsa, in particular, emphasized the importance of preserving documentary heritage in the context of Russia’s war of aggression, positively noting the Ukrainian experience within the framework of the UNESCO Memory of the World Program.

“Amidst the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine, this initiative will strengthen Ukrainian archives and their ability to preserve and create access to documentary heritage. The project will promote cooperation between researchers, artists, and journalists”, Mariana Betsa said.

The implementation of the project should be embodied, in particular, in a number of public and multimedia events aimed at disseminating historical and cultural narratives of Jewish communities in Ukraine.

The presentation was attended by Anastasia Bondar, Deputy Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications for Digital Development, Digital Transformations and Digitalization, Anatoliy Khromov, Head of the State Archives Service of Ukraine, Remi Duflo, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, Daniel Chuturich, Deputy Head of the UNESCO Office in Ukraine, Guilherme Canela, Director of the UNESCO Division for Digital Inclusion and Policies and Digital Transformation, researchers and artists.
