On August 26, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mariana Betsa held a meeting with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania Gabija Grigaitė-Daugirdė.
Mariana Betsa expressed gratitude to the Lithuanian side for its unwavering support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders amidst ongoing Russian aggression.
The Deputy Minister of Ukraine reaffirmed Ukraine's commitment to the peace process, emphasizing that there is no alternative to efforts aimed at achieving comprehensive, just, and lasting peace based on the principles of the UN Charter.
The parties discussed coordination of actions in international organizations, cooperation on political and humanitarian tracks, the work of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children, as well as planned events within the framework of the High-Level Week of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. They agreed to continue to maintain a high level of cooperation both bilaterally and within international organizations.
The interlocutors paid particular attention to the critical situation of Ukrainian children illegally deported by Russia, stressing that Russia's war crimes require a decisive response from the international community and increased political pressure on the Russian Federation at all levels to protect the rights of Ukrainian children, ensure their immediate and unconditional return to Ukraine, and bring those responsible to justice.
Gabija Grigaitė-Daugirdė confirmed her country’s readiness to host for rehabilitation the groups of Ukrainian children illegally deported by Russia, providing them with the necessary support and assistance in their recovery. Mariana Betsa expressed her gratitude to Lithuania for this initiative, noting that it makes an important element of support for Ukrainian children after their return.
