MFA of Ukraine held political consultations with MFA of Moldova
14 July 2023 15:53

On July 14, Ukrainian-Moldovan political consultations took place in Kyiv with the participation of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Yevhen Perebiynis and the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova Ruslan Bolbocean.

There was a substantive exchange of opinions on a wide range of relevant issues on the agenda of Ukrainian-Moldovan relations, including the implementation of joint projects in the economy, trade, energy, digitalization, countering disinformation, the development of border infrastructure fields, and other areas of mutual interest.

It was noted the importance of continuing working contacts at the high level, including by organization of mutual visits and the practical implementation of reached agreements.

The Moldovan side was informed about the President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Peace formula. It was emphasized the need to increase sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation and hold Russia accountable for the crime of aggression against Ukraine.

As part of the consultations, the parties also discussed regional security and coordination of actions in the context of ongoing Russia's war against Ukraine and Moscow's constant attempts to destabilize the situation in the Republic of Moldova. The Deputy Minister confirmed the unchanging position of Ukraine regarding the need to settle the Transnistrian issue peacefully on the basis of respecting the territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova within its internationally recognized borders.

Yevhen Perebiynis expressed gratitude to Moldova for comprehensive support of Ukraine in its resistance to Russian armed aggression, as well as for the assistance provided to temporarily displaced citizens of Ukraine who are on the territory of Moldova.

The sides paid special attention to the implementation of the strategic course of Ukraine and Moldova on joining the EU. It was emphasized that European integration opens up additional opportunities for the activation of Ukrainian-Moldovan cooperation, including with the possible help of European partners in the implementation of projects of common interest. It was hoped that the European Union would adopt a decision on the start of pre-accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova by the end of 2023.

The parties noted the successful interaction of Ukraine and Moldova within the framework of international organizations - UN, OSCE, Council of Europe, BSEC - and identified priority directions for further cooperation in the international arena.

There was also a separate meeting between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mykola Tochytskyi and Ruslan Bolbochan, during which the interlocutors exchanged views on issues of regional security and cooperation within the framework of GUAM.
