01 May 2026 14:50

On the second day of his working visit to the Republic of the Philippines, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Olexandr Mischenko held a series of meetings focused on deepening the Ukraine–Philippines security dialogue, advancing practical cooperation, and enhancing Ukraine’s engagement with partners in the Indo-Pacific region.

During a meeting with Deputy National Security Adviser – Assistant Director General of the National Security Council of the Republic of the Philippines Benjamin Madrigal Jr., the Ukrainian side expressed gratitude to the Philippines for its consistent support for Ukraine, particularly within the United Nations, and briefed on the current situation, challenges posed by Russian aggression, and Ukraine’s experience in strengthening national resilience. The parties discussed prospects for cooperation in the areas of security, countering disinformation, crisis management, and protection of critical infrastructure.

The Philippine side confirmed its interest in Ukraine’s experience in applying modern technologies, as well as in studying Ukraine’s practices of adapting state institutions to conditions of prolonged security pressure and building a system of national resilience.

During a working breakfast with Undersecretary of National Defense of the Republic of the Philippines Ireneo Espino, attended by the ambassadors of the United Kingdom, Finland, Denmark, and Sweden, as well as representatives of the diplomatic missions of the United States, the European Union, Japan, Canada, Germany, Poland, and Norway, participants discussed the security situation in Ukraine, its impact on global stability, and the interconnection between security in Europe and the Indo-Pacific region.

Olexandr Mischenko expressed gratitude to all international partners present for their unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of Russia’s armed aggression.

A separate meeting was held with representatives of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of the Republic of the Philippines, during which the sides exchanged views on prospects for bilateral cooperation, particularly between relevant institutions of both states.

Ensuring Ukraine’s victory and holding the aggressor state, Russia, accountable through the institutions of the International Criminal Court and other mechanisms will serve as an important deterrent against potential future acts of aggression by other authoritarian regimes.

At the conclusion of the visit, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine held a briefing with representatives of leading Philippine media outlets. The discussion focused on the situation in Ukraine, prospects for a just peace, the inadmissibility of legitimizing armed aggression, the significance of Russia’s war against Ukraine for the Indo-Pacific region, and further development of Ukraine–Philippines relations.
