Olexandr Mischenko Holds Ukrainian-Turkish Political Consultations

On 14 May, Ukrainian-Turkish political consultations were held in Kyiv under the co-chairmanship of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Olexandr Mischenko and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye Berris Ekinci.

Prior to the meeting, Olexandr Mischenko and Berris Ekinci honored the memory of the defenders of Ukraine by laying flowers at the Wall of Remembrance of those who lost their lives for Ukraine.

Olexandr Mischenko expressed gratitude to the Turkish side for its consistent support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as for Türkiye’s active role in maintaining regional stability and security in the Black Sea region.

The parties discussed a broad range of issues on the bilateral and international agenda. Particular attention was paid to the political dialogue between Ukraine and Türkiye, the implementation of agreements reached at the highest and high levels, as well as the further intensification of institutional mechanisms of bilateral cooperation.

During the consultations, the interlocutors focused separately on issues of security and defence cooperation. In this context, the parties discussed prospects for the development of cooperation in the defence-industrial sphere, strengthening security in the Black Sea region, and coordinating efforts to ensure freedom of navigation and food security.

The diplomats also paid particular attention to trade and economic cooperation. The parties positively noted the dynamics of bilateral trade and confirmed their interest in further expanding economic interaction.

The interlocutors also discussed prospects for cooperation in the energy sector, as well as the participation of the Turkish side in projects aimed at the reconstruction and recovery of Ukraine.

The parties exchanged views on cooperation within international organisations, in particular the United Nations and the OSCE, as well as on mutual support for candidacies in multilateral formats.

Olexandr Mischenko informed the Turkish side about the current security situation and Ukraine’s efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in accordance with the principles of the UN Charter and international law.

In the context of regional issues, the interlocutors discussed the functioning of initiatives aimed at supporting Ukraine, including the Coalition of the Willing, as well as the current situation in the Black Sea region and regional security issues.

The parties also exchanged views on cooperation with key partners in the context of supporting security and stability in the region.

Particular attention was paid to consular cooperation. Olexandr Mischenko expressed gratitude for providing shelter to thousands of Ukrainian citizens forced to leave their homeland as a result of Russian aggression, as well as for organising recreation in Türkiye’s coastal regions for children from families of Ukrainian service members and frontline regions of Ukraine.

Separately, the Turkish delegation viewed with an exhibition of modern Ukrainian weaponry displayed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

Following the consultations, the parties confirmed their readiness to further deepen the Ukrainian-Turkish strategic partnership and maintain an active political dialogue between the foreign ministries of the two states.
