21 October 2026 14:44

On 21 October, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Olexandr Mischenko met with a delegation of the Ministry of the Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs of the French Republic, headed by Director General for International Relations and Strategy Guillaume Ollagnier.

The discussions focused on key issues of the Ukrainian-French strategic partnership, particularly the further development of security and defence cooperation, continued military assistance to Ukraine, and strengthening Ukraine's defence capabilities amid Russia's ongoing armed aggression.

Olexandr Mischenko briefed his French counterpart on the current situation on the battlefield and the consequences of Russian attacks against Ukraine's civilian population and critical infrastructure. In this context, he emphasised the importance of consolidating international efforts, increasing sanctions pressure on Russia, and ensuring continued defence support for Ukraine.

The Ukrainian diplomat expressed gratitude to France for its consistent support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, substantial military assistance, and active role in countering Russian aggression.

Particular attention was paid to the implementation of bilateral security agreements, addressing Ukraine's priority defence needs, and mobilising international support mechanisms, including the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative and the European financial instrument Security Action for Europe (SAFE).

The parties also discussed prospects for deepening Ukrainian-French military-technical cooperation, implementing joint defence industry projects, and engaging French companies in the development of defence production in Ukraine, including through opportunities offered by the European Defence Industry Programme (EDIP).

The parties also exchanged views on current challenges to European security, international efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace, and the establishment of reliable security guarantees for Ukraine as an integral part of the future European security architecture.

Following the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their mutual interest in further developing the Ukrainian-French strategic partnership and deepening practical cooperation in the security and defence sectors.
