On 16 July, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Olexandr Mischenko held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to Ukraine Davlatali Nazrizoda.
The interlocutors focused primarily on summing up the results of the Deputy Minister’s working visit to the Republic of Tajikistan, which took place on 22–23 June, as well as on discussing practical steps to implement the agreements reached following the Ukrainian-Tajik political consultations. Olexandr Mischenko thanked the Tajik side for the substantive programme of the visit and the high level of organisation of the political consultations, noting that their holding confirmed the mutual interest of Ukraine and Tajikistan in restoring regular political dialogue and developing bilateral cooperation.
The Ukrainian side expressed gratitude to the Republic of Tajikistan for its consistent support for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognised borders.
The parties discussed prospects for intensifying contacts at the high and highest levels, as well as further interaction between the foreign ministries of the two states.
Special attention was paid to trade and economic cooperation. The Ukrainian side confirmed its interest in holding the next meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Tajik Commission on Economic Cooperation, resuming the activities of the Ukraine-Tajikistan Business Council, and organising a Ukrainian-Tajik business forum.
The interlocutors also discussed prospects for involving Ukrainian companies in the implementation of projects in the energy sector, in particular the modernisation of hydropower facilities, the development of renewable energy and engineering infrastructure.
During the meeting, particular attention was also paid to the development of cooperation in education. The Ukrainian side confirmed its readiness to continue admitting citizens of Tajikistan to study at Ukrainian higher education institutions, and expressed interest in implementing joint educational projects, including the opening of branches of Ukrainian universities in Tajikistan.
The parties also discussed opportunities for Tajikistan’s participation in Ukraine’s recovery projects, humanitarian support, the development of transport and logistics cooperation, and the updating of the legal framework of bilateral relations.
Olexandr Mischenko emphasised the importance of moving towards the practical implementation of the agreements reached and expressed hope for further close interaction with the Tajik side in order to develop the Ukrainian-Tajik partnership.
