On July 1, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Olexandr Mischenko held a meeting with a delegation of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan comprising the Head of the Working Group on Inter-Parliamentary Relations with Ukraine Alibala Maharramzade and its member Erkin Gadirli.
The parties confirmed their mutual support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and Azerbaijan, and discussed current issues on the bilateral agenda, including the further intensification of inter-parliamentary dialogue.
Olexandr Mischenko thanked Azerbaijan for the humanitarian assistance provided to Ukraine, including support for the energy system and participation in the reconstruction of civilian infrastructure, particularly in the city of Irpin.
Special attention during the meeting was given to coordinating cooperation within international organisations, including parliamentary assemblies, as well as the prospects for organising bilateral high-level visits, including at the level of the leadership of the legislative bodies of the two states.
During the meeting, the Ukrainian side noted the high level of organisation of the World Urban Forum and the Baku Energy Forum held in Azerbaijan, in which Ukrainian government delegations participated.
In the context of preparations for the next session of the Joint Ukrainian-Azerbaijani Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, the parties discussed possibilities for expanding its format through greater involvement of business representatives from key economic sectors of both states.
Against the backdrop of the positive dynamics of the peace process in the South Caucasus and the active development of the Middle Corridor as an important alternative transport and logistics route, the parties discussed the possible participation of a Ukrainian delegation in a thematic forum of South Caucasus and Central Asia countries planned to be held in Baku.
Olexandr Mischenko also confirmed the Ukrainian side's readiness to participate in this year's international conference in Azerbaijan on humanitarian demining — one of the priority areas of bilateral cooperation.
The Azerbaijani side, in turn, informed that it is prepared in principle to host another group of Ukrainian children from frontline regions of Ukraine for rest and rehabilitation as early as next week.
The parties also agreed to organise a joint event to honour the memory of citizens of Ukraine of Azerbaijani origin who gave their lives in the struggle for the freedom and independence of Ukraine.
The Azerbaijani parliamentarians confirmed their readiness to continue strengthening practical support for Ukraine and to reinforce the bilateral partnership between Kyiv and Baku.
