Remarks by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba at the Summit of the Crimea Platform
23 August 2022 20:35

Distinguished Participants of the Summit, dear friends,

It was my honour to moderate this summit that brought together 60 delegations. Time to wrap up and sum up.

Imagine that Crimea was under Ukraine’s control and Russia had never occupied it. We would have avoided many tragedies and problems. This is why the restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and the return of Crimea under Ukraine’s control remains the most effective way to guarantee European and global security.

The International Crimea Platform is the only existing international fora aimed at achieving this result by diplomatic and political means.

Today’s broad involvement of states and international organisations proves that everyone understands the danger and what is at stake. The de-occupation of Crimea will bring a powerful warning to other dictators and revanchists: do not break the rules of peaceful coexistence of peoples. Because if you do, you will get a united and tough response from the world, and ultimately, you will lose. Because the consequences of such an adventure will be unprecedented for your state and your people. It is extremely important for the whole world to send this message together, to unite efforts to achieve this, and this is exactly what we have done today.

Today, our Crimea Platform family has become stronger, larger and broader geographically. We welcome new countries and international organisations that have joined us, that decided to share our common principles and struggle for the right cause. I am deeply grateful to each and every one of you. We are united by the same values of respect for each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity, in respect for everyone's choice of their path.

I have no doubts that the Crimea Platform will continue to grow and act as a coalition of the willing.

Today's meeting marks the beginning of a series of relevant international activities. We plan to hold at least two high-level events by the end of 2022:

First, the Parliamentary Summit of the Crimea Platform in Zagreb, Croatia, on October 24th. It will officially inaugurate the Platform’s parliamentary track. We are grateful to our Croatian friends for supporting our initiative and demonstrating hospitality.

Second, Black Sea Security Conference at the level of foreign and defence ministers to discuss the impact of the Russian aggression on the Black Sea security, navigation in the region, world food and energy security.

And, of course, the third element will be in the follow-up to the ideas on economic recovery of Crimea, presented today by Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal. We intend to elaborate on this topic at the upcoming conference in Berlin mentioned in the opening remarks by German Chancellor Olaf Scholtz.

I invite all today’s participants of the summit to take an active part in these events and contribute to their success. We count on you to support our common goal: the de-occupation of the entire territory of Ukraine, including the de-occupation of Crimea.

In the meantime I am pleased and honoured to announce the approval of the Joint Statement of the International Crimea Platform Participants.

And now this summit is adjourned. Thank you.
