On April 9, the Hennadii Udovenko Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine at the MFA hosted a meeting with representatives of the Public Council under the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War. The meeting was chaired by State Secretary Oleksandr Karasevych, with the participation of diplomats from the MFA's central apparatus and representatives of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

At the initiative of Minister for Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha, the position of Ambassador-at-Large within the Department of International Law and International Legal Counteraction to Aggression has been established. This role aims to ensure effective coordination within the MFA on issues related to prisoners of war, civilians deprived of personal liberty, and missing persons. Dmytro Heorhiyovych Ponomarenko has been appointed to this position.

During the meeting, participants discussed further steps for cooperation in identifying effective mechanisms to pressure the aggressor state, Russia, to prevent torture and inhuman treatment of Ukrainian prisoners of war. They also addressed cooperation regarding the release of Ukrainian defenders and civilians deprived of personal liberty, as well as the protection of the rights of missing persons.

Following the meeting, the MFA agreed with representatives of the Public Council and the Coordination Headquarters to align a joint action plan for 2026, including advocacy efforts.
