25 June 2024 11:00

On June 24, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine hosted an event dedicated to the International Day of Women in Diplomacy, which is celebrated on this date for the second year in a row at the initiative of the United Nations.

The event was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps, executive authorities and civil society, as well as members of the MFA Women's Club.

The event is aimed at recognizing the role of women in diplomacy, building international relations and promoting sustainable development, peace and democracy.

"We want to not only recognize past achievements, but, more importantly, to dedicate the event to the future generation of Ukrainian diplomats," said Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba in his opening remarks.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, with the support of its partners, is patronizing the Girls Diplomatic Academy project, which aims to help girls from small towns in Ukraine master the field of international relations and diplomacy, develop soft power skills and counteract disinformation. Such events are a good platform for a fruitful exchange of views and experiences, and for development," said Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Iryna Borovets.

During the event, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine presented the results of the second gender audit conducted by the Ministry with the support of UN Women. This audit is an important step towards ensuring equal opportunities for all employees and creating favorable conditions for the professional development of women in diplomacy.

During the event, representatives of the diplomatic corps and international organizations - US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink and UN Women Representative in Ukraine Sabine Fraser - also addressed the participants. The distinguished guests emphasized the importance of such initiatives and noted positive developments in human rights, including equality, which are an integral part of advanced democracies.

The MFA expresses its gratitude for the cooperation in numerous gender initiatives launched by the Ministry and support for this project to its steadfast partners, including the American Councils for International Education, UN Women in Ukraine, and the Embassy of Sweden in Ukraine.
