The document is synchronized with the UN GA Resolution “Aggression Against Ukraine” that was approved the day before, confirms support for our country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, condemns the intervention of Russian forces in Ukrainian territory and calls for withdrawal of all Russian troops from Ukraine.
The resolution gives the green light to the creation of the investigative commission mandated to collect, document and prepare for submission to court proceedings of all the human rights violations and war crimes committed by Russia during the armed aggression against Ukraine.
The newly established agency, together with international judicial institutions including the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice, will play an important role in prosecuting the persons involved in Russia’s crimes against Ukraine and its citizens committed from 2014.
The Resolution was approved as a result of the urgent debate the UN Human Rights Council “The Situation with Human Rights in Ukraine As a Result of Russian Aggression” convened at the Ukrainian side’s request. 32 members of the UN Human Rights Council supported the document at the voting. Only two countries, Russia and Eritrea, voted against, which once again confirms Moscow’s international isolation.
