on January 26, 2024 fulfilling the mandate of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Head of the Ukrainian delegation at the negotiations on the drafting and preparation of international agreements between Ukraine and other states on security guarantees - Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak, next round of negotiations with Canada was held on bilateral security commitments between Canada and Ukraine.
The negotiations took place in the development of the Joint Declaration on Support for Ukraine, adopted by the G7 Leaders on July 12, 2023 in Vilnius.
In the beginning of the negotiations, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mykola Tochytskyi expressed his sincere and deep gratitude to the Canadian Government and the Canadian People for the continuous invaluable assistance and enhanced support provided to Ukraine to ensure the deterrence of the large-scale armed aggression of the Russian Federation.
The head of the Canadian delegation, Political Director of the Canada`s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Heidi Hulan emphasized Canada's steadfastness and readiness to stand side by side with Ukraine to deter Russian aggression.
It was particularly underlined that the fact of Canada's participation in the negotiations symbolizes the Euro-Atlantic volume of the future security commitments given to Ukraine by the partner states.
The participants of the negotiations continued to discuss drafting of specific provisions of the future document, discussed its thematic blocks, and also exchanged opinions on the planning and modalities of the further negotiation process.
