Ukraine and Germany have announced the Ukraine–Germany Bilateral Cultural Season for 2027–2028.

This provision is enshrined in the Declaration on Strategic Partnership between the two countries, released on April 14, 2026, following a meeting in Berlin between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The talks took place as part of the resumption of the intergovernmental consultation format after a hiatus of more than twenty years.

A joint press conference under the slogan “Partners for a Secure Europe” demonstrated that the strategic partnership between Ukraine and Germany encompasses not only security and economic dimensions but also social and cultural ties.

Cultural interaction between Ukrainian and German societies has been identified as one of the three strategic priorities of bilateral cooperation.

As part of the Season in Ukraine and Germany, a wide-ranging program of events is planned that will bring together cultural institutions, artists, researchers, and the general public around intercultural dialogue. The program will include theater and music events, film screenings, exhibitions, joint museum and literary projects, public lectures and discussions, artistic exchanges, university partnerships, as well as information campaigns in both countries.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Institute, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, as well as other relevant Ukrainian and German institutions will be involved in the preparation and implementation of the program.
