«Ukraine has called upon for strong actions to be taken against Russia's attempts to undermine the international regime of non-proliferation of biological weapons», - noted in his speech at the Conference Mr.Viacheslav Yatsiuk, Head of the Ukrainian Delegation, Director of the Department General for International Security of the MFA, at the Conference.
The representative of Ukraine reiterated that the UN Security Council and the vast majority of State Participants of the BTWC Official Consultative Meeting, which was held in September, 2022 in accordance with Article V of the Convention, dismissed Russia's false accusations regarding the so called Ukrainian-American military biological activities in Ukraine. Mr.Yatsiuk stressed that it is necessary to take comprehensive measures to continue to debunk Russia’s manipulative narratives.
The Head of the Delegation of Ukraine called upon the States Parties to the Convention to pay special attention to the possible measures of verification of the Russian compliance with its obligations of not producing biological weapons, in particular at the facilities, inherited from the Soviet Union.
The representative of Ukraine brought special attention to the ongoing Russian massive missile terror against the civil population and critical infrastructure of Ukraine, which, inter alia, constitutes a serious threat to the biological security and the safety of Ukraine and its neighbouring countries.
The Head of the Delegation of Ukraine emphasized that after the liberation of the temporarily occupied territories, Ukraine would greatly rely on the active international cooperation and assistance in rehabilitation and reconstruction of the damaged biomedical infrastructure.
The partner countries, in particular, Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Great Britain, Japan, USA and the European Union expressed their full support to Ukraine and noted the negative impact of the Russian aggression on the integrity of the Convention.
