On May 20, 2020, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mr. Vasyl Bodnar received Ambassador of the State of Israel to Ukraine H.E. Joel Lion.
The parties discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation, including prospects for political and economic dialogue with the newly appointed Israeli government, support for Ukraine's territorial integrity, and the situation in the Middle East.
Mr. Bodnar expressed hope for Israel’s continuous support of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine in the view of the ongoing Russian aggression.
The sides agreed to hold the next round of political consultations between the foreign offices of Ukraine and Israel in the nearest future.
Mr. Bodnar and H.E. Lion paid particular attention to discussing such crimes against humanity as Holocaust and Holodomor. The Ukrainian side expressed hope that the new Israeli parliament would recognize the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine as genocide of the Ukrainian people.
• Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of the State of Israel, paid an official visit to Ukraine in August 2019, President of Ukraine Mr. Volodymyr Zelenskyy paid a working visit to Israel on January 23-24, 2020.
• The new government of the State of Israel was sworn in on May 17, 2020.
• The previous round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Israel took place in Jerusalem on April 29-30, 2019.
• The delegation of the State of Israel consistently supported the UN General Assembly resolutions on “Situation of human rights in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol (Ukraine)” in 2016-2019 and “Problem of the militarization of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, Ukraine, as well as parts of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov” in 2018-2019.
