On October 4, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Vasyl Bodnar received the copies of credentials from the newly appointed Ambassador of Georgia to Ukraine Georgi Zakarashvili.

The Sides discussed the topical issues of relations between Ukraine and Georgia as well as of the regional security. They reaffirmed the need to strengthen the cooperation to face common security challenges.

Vasyl Bodnar raised the issue of detention of Mikheil Saakashvili, a citizen of Ukraine, in Georgia, and stressed the need to fully respect his legal rights and interests. The Deputy Minister thanked the Georgian side for allowing the Ukrainian consul to visit Mikheil Saakashvili on October 4 to provide him with consular and legal assistance.

Georgi Zakarashvili assured of readiness to make every effort for the active development of bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and Georgia, informed about the circumstances and reasons for the detention of Mikheil Saakashvili in Georgia.
