On May 6 in Kyiv, Ukrainian–Swiss political consultations took place, co-chaired by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Yevhen Perebyinis and Head of the Eurasia Division of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs Pierre-Yves Fux. The meeting was also attended by the Delegate of the Swiss Federal Council for Ukraine Jacques Gerber and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Switzerland to Ukraine Felix Baumann.

During the consultations, Yevhen Perebyinis expressed gratitude to Switzerland for its consistent support of Ukraine, particularly for its active participation in peace initiatives and its willingness to provide a platform for negotiations. He informed participants about the current situation on the front line and emphasized the need to further strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities. Switzerland’s significant contribution Ukrainian to humanitarian demining was also highlighted by Ukrainian diplomat, along with discussions on prospects for cooperation in this area.

For his part, Pierre-Yves Fux reaffirmed Switzerland’s unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its readiness to continue actively participating in humanitarian and diplomatic initiatives in support of Ukraine.

The parties noted the high level of political dialogue between Ukraine and Switzerland and paid special attention to coordinating cooperation within international organizations. In particular, they emphasized the importance of Switzerland’s OSCE chairmanship in 2026, including in the context of documenting crimes committed by Russia and strengthening international efforts to achieve peace.

The Ukrainian side stressed the need to further increase international pressure on the aggressor state, in particular by maintaining and effectively implementing the sanctions regime. In this context, the parties discussed holding Russia accountable, including the creation of a Special Tribunal, the functioning of a Register of Damages, and the establishment of an international compensation mechanism.

Special attention the parties also gave to the topic of Ukraine’s reconstruction, including Switzerland’s participation in relevant programs and projects, the possibility of expanding the involvement of the Swiss private sector, and continued support for Ukraine’s energy resilience ahead of the upcoming winter period.
