On May 16, 2024 during a working visit to Brussels Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Yevhen Perebyinis held the meeting with the Director General for Political Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belgium Ghislain D’Hoop, the Director General for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belgium Heidy Rombouts, the Executive Director of the Belgian development agency "ENABEL" Jean Van Wetter and the Advisor to the Minister for Development Cooperation and Major Cities Olivier Théry.
Yevhen Perebyinis expressed gratitude for the comprehensive support that the Kingdom of Belgium has provided to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion.
In the context of developing bilateral dialogue, a wide range of issues, including the holding of the Global Peace Summit, further military assistance to Ukraine, confiscation of frozen Russian assets and strengthening of sanctions pressure against the aggressor state was discussed.
Additionally, the parties talked over the current security and energy situation in our country in light of the ongoing Russian offensive in the Kharkiv region and daily missile strikes.
Particular attention during the negotiations was paid to Ukraine's European and Euro-Atlantic integration progress. In this regard, the Deputy Minister expressed gratitude to the Belgian side for its steadfast support during Belgium's presidency in the Council of the EU. At the same time, Yevhen Perebyinis expressed hope for the adoption of negotiation framework and holding of the First Intergovernmental Conference on Ukraine's accession to the EU during Belgium's EU presidency in June this year.
