On 23 February, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Yevhen Perebyinis held a meeting with a delegation of Italian parliamentarians led by Senator Carlo Calenda.
The parties discussed further support for Ukraine from Italy, particularly in the context of countering Russia’s aggression, strengthening sanctions policy, enhancing Ukraine’s defence capabilities, and bolstering the country’s energy resilience. The Deputy Minister expressed gratitude to the Italian side for its consistent and comprehensive assistance, including the provision of equipment for the energy sector and support for relevant budgetary programs.
Particular attention was paid to Ukraine’s European integration. Yevhen Perebyinis emphasized the importance of further advancing Ukraine’s path towards membership in the European Union and noted Italy’s role in shaping a common European position in support for Ukraine.
The interlocutors also discussed the need to intensify efforts to counter Russian disinformation and propaganda, which deliberately undermine democratic institutions and pose an additional threat to the stability of the European region.
The Ukrainian side expressed appreciation for the personal engagement of the Italian parliamentarians and their active support for Ukraine at both the bilateral and European levels.
