On July 21, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Yevhen Perebyinis held a meeting with the delegation of the Committee on Foreign and European Community Affairs of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, headed by Vice-Chair Lia Quartapelle Procopio.
Yevhen Perebyinis expressed gratitude to the Italian parliamentarians for their comprehensive support and solidarity since the early days of the full-scale Russian invasion. He urged them to continue supporting all initiatives of the Italian Government aimed at assistance to Ukraine.
The main focus of the meeting was paid to the implementation of Ukraine's strategic plan for joining the EU and NATO. In particular, Yevhen Perebyinis informed his interlocutors about the status of Ukraine's implementation of the recommendations of the European Commission and also expressed hope that the European Union would adopt a decision to start the pre-accession negotiations with Ukraine by the end of 2023.
The parties also discussed the current security situation in Ukraine in connection with the full-scale Russian war, further strengthening of sanctions pressure on the aggressor country, and involving Italy in the implementation of the Ukrainian Peace Formula. Yevhen Perebyinis emphasized the importance of holding the highest political and military leadership of the Russian Federation accountable for the crime of aggression against Ukraine.
Representatives of the Italian parliament expressed unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as the European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations of the Ukrainian people.
