The OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Leonid Kozhara speaking today at the event on the occasion of 20th anniversary of the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities underlined that lasting peace and security could only be achieved by respecting and upholding human rights, including the rights of persons, belonging to national minorities.
The OSCE Chair noted that “for 20 years the HCNM Institution has accumulated considerable experience and has developed practical tools to contribute to the prevention of conflicts at the earliest possible stage”.
The Minister reiterate “strong support for the institution of the HCNM and stressed the need for implementation of the commitments undertaken by all participating States to fully cooperate with the High Commissioner in order to enable him to fulfill his mandate”.
The event was attended by Her Majesty Queen of the Netherlands Beatrix and other honorable guests.
