Emphasizing that Germany gives special importance to a successful implementation of economic and democratic reforms in Ukraine, in particular, in the sphere of guaranteeing supremacy of law, G.Westerwelle declared that Germany applauded the decision taken by the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych regarding the pardon granted to the former members of Ukrainian Government Yuri Lutsenko and Georgy Filipchuk. This decision is regarded as an important step on the way of Ukraine towards signing the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU. Ministers discussed further priority measures to be taken in this respect.

The German Foreign Minister welcomed continued cooperation with our country in the framework of the Ukraine’s OSCE Chairmanship, emphasizing on the important role of Ukraine in facilitating progress towards Transdniestrian settlement.

Both Ministers also exchanged views on a number of other issues, in particular regarding the ways of ensuring the energy security in Europe
