Representatives from more than 20 ministries and institutions engaged in the implementation of the Action Plan participated in the meeting together with those of the Secretariat of the Council of Europe and its Kyiv Office.
During the meeting the main results of the implementation of the Action Plan during the last year were discussed. The draft of its revised version providing for continuation of activities in such priority areas as reform of criminal justice, increasing the independence and efficiency of the judiciary, and integration of European standards in the media environment was presented to the participants.
The Action Plan 2011-2014 is composed of 56 projects. It is designed to facilitate the ambitious reform agenda in Ukraine, in particular in the areas where the Council of Europe has specific expertise: human rights, rule of law and democracy. The Current Plan was prepared by the Ukrainian authorities in cooperation with representatives of civil society taking into account the most topical needs of reforms in Ukraine, aimed at promotion of human rights (including social rights), reform of criminal justice and judiciary system, fight against corruption and cybercrime, strengthening freedom of expression.
Overall positive assessment of the implementation of projects during the relevant period was expressed by the participants of the meeting. The commitment of Ukraine and the Council of Europe to continue efforts aimed at the achievement of the Plan’s ambitious goals – facilitation of democratic reforms according to the priorities defined by the President and Government of Ukraine, as well as the implementation of Ukraine's commitments to the Council of Europe, emerging from its membership in the Organization - was reaffirmed.
The participants of the meeting agreed the draft revised version of the Council of Europe Action Plan 2011-2014 in general. The proper funding is secured for the vast majority of its projects.
