On March 16, 2011, Viktor Maiko, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine met with Tadashi Izawa, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine.
H.E. V. Mayko expressed his sincere condolences to the friendly people of Japan regarding series of powerful earthquakes and devastating tsunamis that occurred on March 11, 2011 at the eastern coast of Japan’s main island - Honshu.
The main topic of the meeting was discussion regarding the possible providing of urgent humanitarian assistance to the victims of natural disasters.
On behalf of the Government of Japan, H.E. T. Izawa thanked to the Ukrainian side for readiness to provide humanitarian assistance and join the process of overcoming consequences of natural disasters.
The sides also discussed participation of the Japanese Government leadership in Chernobyl events.
