Ukraine is ready to provide Japan with the necessary assistance to overcome the aftermath of the March 11 earthquake, which caused disastrous destructions and the death of people in the country.
In compliance with the decree of President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych the Ministry of Emergency Situations is ready to promptly send all the necessary technical aid to Japan. The 45-strong rescue unit with the special equipment has been set ready to depart for hit areas, as well as dogs trained to search people under obstructions. If need be the unit is equipped with radiation and chemical survey and protection means.
Moreover considering the huge experience of Ukraine in overcoming the aftermath of radiation pollution of territories as a result of liquidation of consequences of the accident at the Chornobyl NPP and in connection with the dangerous situation at one of Japan’s NPP (Fukushima-1), the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine addressed the Foreign Ministry of Japan with the proposal to provide the assistance by Ukrainian nuclear power experts in the shortest terms.
The Embassy of Ukraine in Japan works in a 24 hour a day mode and keeps on monitoring the situation in the country after the earthquake, which caused numerous destructions and human loss. According to preliminary data, no citizens of Ukraine reported killed or injured in the earthquake.
As many as 511 Ukrainian citizens stay at the consular registration. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is ready if need be to provide full assistance to Ukrainian citizens for their safe returning to Ukraine. The Embassy is staying in contact with the fellow citizens.
