Ukrainian Foreign Minister was received by President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov. At this meeting a wide range of issues of Ukrainian-Uzbek cooperation was discussed.
During the meeting with the Chairman of the Senate of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ilgizar Sobirov the Minister stressed the importance of close inter-parliamentary relations between the two states and informed about establishment of special Group of Ukrainian parliamentarians for inter-parliamentary affairs with Uzbekistan. Minister Gryshchenko handed over to Mr.Sobirov the invitation from Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn to visit Ukraine.
Negotiations with the Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov were focused on further expanding of mutually beneficial cooperation both on bilateral and multilateral levels.
Special attention was paid to the issues of further enhancement of political dialogue, trade and economic relations, investment, cultural and humanitarian cooperation, legal basis, as well as exchange of support at the election to the governing bodies of international organizations.
Both Ministers also discussed current international issues of mutual interest - the Middle East and Afghanistan, nuclear proliferation, fighting terrorism and extremism, illegal drug trafficking.
Minister for Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan accepted the invitation from Minister Gryshchenko to visit Ukraine in the near future.
Following negotiations, Foreign Ministers of Ukraine and the Republic of Uzbekistan signed a program of cooperation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both countries in 2012, and Memorandum on Cooperation between the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine and the University of World Economy and Diplomacy of Uzbekistan.
The visit was particularly aimed at encouraging further development of trade and economic cooperation between Ukraine and Uzbekistan. The Foreign Minister of Ukraine was accompanied by representatives of leading Ukrainian enterprises of machine building industry, energy and service fields, which are interested in doing large-scale joint projects with Uzbek partners.
The prospects of economic cooperation with Uzbekistan were specifically discussed by the Foreign Minister of Ukraine with Minister for Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Elyor Ganiev. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ukrainian and Uzbek companies.
The parties noted that it is in the mutual interest of both sides to further enhance trade and investment cooperation, and there exists a huge potential to double bilateral trade volumes that may soon reach $ 2 billion.
It was agreed to have more substantial talks on the matter of economic relationship during the 8th session of Ukrainian-Uzbek Intergovernmental Commission for Cooperation. In the framework of the visit the Foreign Minister of Ukraine met with the Ukrainian community representatives in Uzbekistan. Minister laid flowers to the Statue of Taras Shevchenko and to the Monument of Independence and Humanism.
