January 21, 2011 the Ukrainian-Romanian political consultations at the level of Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin and State Secretary for European Affairs of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Romania Bogdan Aurescu took place in Bucharest.
Current situation and perspectives of further development of Ukrainian-Romanian bilateral relations in political, economic, humanitarian and consular spheres were discussed. An important part of negotiations was the issue of cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union.
During the consultations the issues of transboundary and regional cooperation, particularly in the context of Ukraine's presidency in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe (May-November 2011), the future presidency of Ukraine in the OSCE in 2013 and Romania's presidency in the BSEC in the first half of 2011 were also raised.
The sides underlined readiness to intensify bilateral contacts and identified a number of steps aimed at strengthening relations between the two countries.
