Deputy Foreign Minister Sergiy Kyslytsya has received United Nations Human Rights Council’s Special Rapporteur on minority issues Rita Izsak, who is visiting our country from 7 to 13 April to learn first-hand information on minority communities in Ukraine.
They discussed ways of cooperation between Ukraine and the United Nations in promoting and protecting the human rights and fundamental freedoms of minorities. Sergiy Kyslytsya emphasized the interest of the Ukrainian party in obtaining highly qualified international consultative help in this area. Both sides expressed concern about the situation in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. Ukrainian diplomat noted particularly difficult situation of the Crimean Tatars and the ethnic Ukrainians in the Crimea after the invasion of Russian troops into the peninsula.
During her visit the Special Rapporteur is planning to visit ARC, Uzhgorod, Odessa and Donetsk to have a dialogue with minorities and other relevant stakeholders and to see the situation on the ground.
