On 15 April Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Deshchytsia met with OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Dunja Mijatović, who is on the visit to Ukraine to learn first-hand about the situation with the media freedom in our country, including in southern and eastern regions.
The two sides discussed in details issues of utilizing OSCE institutions expertise and tools, in particular, the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, in resolving the current situation in and around Ukraine, guarantying rights of journalists and media freedom, providing expert assistance in reforming the national legislation on media freedom.
Andrii Deshchytsia and Dunja Mijatović exchanged views on a destructive impact of state propaganda, which is practiced by certain OSCE participating-States, on media freedom as well as inadmissibility of information manipulations.
The particular attention has been paid to the establishment of a public TV and radio in Ukraine.
At the meeting Andrii Deshchytsia assured that the Government of Ukraine gives special importance to providing safety of journalists and media freedom in the country.
