On April 15, 2014, political consultations between Ukraine and the Republic of Latvia at the level of Deputy Foreign Ministers were held in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. The Ukrainian side was headed by Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Danylo Lubkivsky, the Latvian side - by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Andrejs Pildegovičs.
The parties discussed priority issues of the Ukraine-Latvia relations in the political, trade and economic, consular, cultural and humanitarian spheres.
Special attention was paid to the political situation in Ukraine, in particular, developments in South-Eastern regions of Ukraine and in Crimea, as well as issues related to the Russian aggression against Ukraine and thereby practical assistance of Latvia and international community for Ukraine in resisting this aggression.
Danylo Lubkivsky informed his colleague Andrejs Pildegovičs on the priority tasks of the Ukrainian Government towards stabilizing the economy and implementation by Ukraine of its European integration policy.
State Secretary Andrejs Pildegovičs emphasized that the leadership of the Latvian state unconditionally supports independence, sovereignty and the territorial integrity of Ukraine and does not recognize the illegitimate annexation of the Crimea by Russia.
The counterparts also exchanged views on practical ways of bilateral interaction in the context of Ukraine's European integration, particularly with regard to sharing Latvia's European integration experience with our country, rendering consultative and technical assistance in carrying out reforms as well as adaptation of the Ukrainian legislation with the EU standards.
