Both Foreign Ministers noted with appreciation that relations between Ukraine and Turkey reached the level of real strategic partnership, which is especially clearly manifested in mutual assistance in the evacuation of Ukrainian and Turkish citizens from Libya in the first half of 2011. In this respect Ahmet Davutoğlu said that Turkish diplomacy will exert all possible efforts to assist Ukraine in its efforts to free more than twenty Ukrainian citizens, which have long been held in custody by the armed groups in Tripoli.
Head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry also said that Turkish diplomatic missions abroad will systematically help the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry to protect the legitimate interests of citizens of Ukraine. On his part, Kostyantyn Gryshchenko assured that Ukrainian diplomats remain open to provide, if requested by the Turkish Foreign Ministry, all necessary assistance to the citizens of Turkey.
During the meeting Ministers noted the substantial progress in negotiations on the Agreement on Free Trade between Ukraine and Turkey and in the dialogue on visa issues. Heads of Foreign Ministries also discussed preparations for the forthcoming visit of President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych to Turkey.
