In connection with the Energy Community Secretariat reaction on Ukrainian leadership statements upon urgency to enhance cooperation between Ukraine and the Energy Community, MFA of Ukraine considers appropriate to state the following.
Accession to the Energy Community in 2011 became Ukraine’s mindful and important step in the context of country’s European integration course. From the very moment of its membership at the Energy Community, Ukraine consistently complies with its responsibilities in adaptation of the national legislation to EU norms and regulations in energy sphere, as well as in providing stability and security of energy supply to European states.
At the same time, in order to provide a constructive dialogue among all European energy market members, Ukraine plans to intensify cooperation with the EU as a member of the Energy Community, and with the European Commission which plays a coordinating role in Energy Community activities, as well as with other international organizations.
In this regard, in the course of the scheduled for next week working visit to Brussels of the Minister for Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine E.Stavytsky and his meetings with the EU Commissioner for Energy G.Oettinger and Energy Charter Secretary General U.Rusnak the efficiency and responsiveness of European structures to energy security challenges and energy supply sources’ diversification will be discussed.
Energy sphere cooperation will be one of the key issues during Ukraine-EU Summit on 25th of February 2013.
Ukraine confirms its adherence to the Energy Community principles and counts on its active position regarding uniting efforts in creating clear, transparent and fair rules in energy sphere and to achieve a balance of interests among Ukraine as main energy resources transit state on a continent, Russia as its leading supplier, and EU as target consumer.
