On April 24, 2014 during his visit to the United States of America Deputy Foreign Minister Danylo Lubkivsky met with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Victoria Nuland, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia Eric Rubin and the Under Secretary for Economic development, Energy and Environment Catherine Novelli.
Danylo Lubkivsky reported on the efforts of the Government of Ukraine towards the stabilization of country’s economy and de-escalation of the crisis in its eastern regions. He also expressed appreciation for the U.S. support in deterring Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and violation of its territorial integrity.
U.S. officials expressed their concerns over the Russia’s interference in Ukraine’s internal affairs massing its troops on the border with Ukraine and supporting illegal armed groups in its eastern regions, therefore acting in direct violation of the Geneva agreements. U.S. called upon all the parties to fulfill their commitments under the Agreements.
Danylo Lubkivsky also discussed current situation in Ukraine at the Washington leading think tanks such as the Brookings Institution, the Carnegie Foundation and the Atlantic Council of the United States which were attended by the U.S. Government and Congress representatives, diplomats, experts and media. Danylo Lubkivsky held a meeting with the former U.S. national security Adviser, influential American politician and expert Zbigniew Brzeziński. The Deputy foreign Minister underlined Ukraine’s commitment to uphold democratic gains of the Ukrainian people, as well as a firm intention of the Government to implement comprehensive reforms in the constitutional, economic, and military areas.
Danylo Lubkivsky had the opportunity to exchange views on ways to support Ukraine in the light of Russian aggression with the U.S. Jewish community. He met with representatives of the American Jewish Committee, NCSJ, the Jewish Federation of North America, the Anti-defamation League and others. Deputy foreign Minister reported on the actions undertaken by the Ukraine’s Government to prevent manifestations of anti-Semitism and xenophobia in our country.
