During the visit to the Federal Republic of Germany acting Foreign Minister of Ukraine Andrii Deshchytsia held negotiations with the Federal German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The parties discussed the state of Ukrainian-German bilateral relations and prospects for their intensification. While discussing the political situation in Ukraine the parties stressed the importance of early presidential elections on May 25. Ministers noted the significant role of the OSCE in the process of finding a solution to the situation in Ukraine. German side gave a positive assessment of the efforts of the Ukrainian Government on holding round tables as a tool for achieving stability in the country.
Andrii Deshchytsia met with members of the Ukrainian-German Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Bundestag. During the meeting the parties discussed the political situation in Ukraine in the context of Russian aggression and German support for Ukraine in implementing social and economic reforms. Both sides stressed the importance of the early presidential elections on May 25, which will be a significant factor in providing stability in Ukraine. The German side announced its plans to send large number of members of the Bundestag to visit Ukraine as elections observers. Ukrainian Minister expressed his confidence in the effectiveness of the Ukrainian-German Inter-Parliamentary Group as an important factor in the development of bilateral cooperation between the two countries and European integration of Ukraine.
During the meeting of the acting Foreign Minister of Ukraine Andrii Deshchytsia with the Foreign Policy and Security Advisor to German Chancellor Christoph Heusgen the parties discussed Ukraine’s domestic policy and further cooperation between the two countries on a wide range of issues in the framework of the German Government’s support for our country in providing system reforms.
Andrii Deshchytsia also met with the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the German Bundestag Norbert Röttgen. At the meeting they discussed the political situation in Ukraine and the preparations for early presidential elections on May 25.
