While opening the meeting, Chairman of the Committee of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine emphasized that the Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of Ukraine has demonstrated great responsibility and ability of Ukraine to be the in the forefront of European politics.
According to the Minister, priorities of presidency, selected by Ukraine have been met in full, despite the fact that the period of presidency of Ukraine came at a difficult stage of the internal reforms of the Council of Europe and a rather complicated political situation in contemporary international politics. "We laid a good foundation for the process of reform to be completed in the shortest possible time and the Council of Europe reached a new level either in effective work and collaboration with other international institutions such as the EU and the OSCE" - said the Minister.
Delegations of forty-seven members of the Council of Europe praised Ukraine's contribution to the organization. In particular it was stressed that Ukraine, through its active position in the period of presidency inspired a new life in the vast number of activities.
As Presidency priorities chosen by Ukraine delegations noted Ukraine achieving concrete results, contributing to develop an entirely new approach to the implementation of key priorities and the basic principles of the Council of Europe - democracy, human rights and the rule of law.
In turn, Secretary General if Council of Europe thanked Ukraine for the effective operation and support for internal reform CE, which aims to increase the role of the Council of Europe in general European processes, separately emphasized the significant contribution of Ukraine to the development of the Council of Europe Neighbourhood Policy and its implementation together with the European Union.
During the meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Great Britain William Hague prospects for Great Britain and Albania Presidency priorities, particularly with regard to reform of the European Court of Human Rights and democratic governance and strengthening local democracy were discussed.
At the end of the session Kostyantyn Gryshchenko handed a symbolic key to the Council of Europe next chairman - Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Kingdom William Hague and congratulated him on entering the office. The Minister stressed that for Ukraine is extremely important that the priorities of the countries that preside over the next year, coincide with those topics on which Ukraine worked during her presidency. Thus, processes, successfully launched by our state will be continued and this shows their priority in the Council of Europe.
