On November 17, in the framework of his visit to the EU institutions Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin took part in the extraordinary meeting of the European Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee on the situation in Ukraine and as well met with its Chairman Elmar Brok.
The Minister thanked the EP deputy corps for its consistent support of the independence, territorial integrity and European choice of Ukraine, which was confirmed in all recent EP resolutions and decisions on the ratification of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and EU and the extension of the term of the EU autonomous trade measures for Ukraine.
During his speech in the Committee Pavlo Klimkin informed the audience in details about the situation in the Donbas region, the efforts of Ukrainian side regarding the implementation of Minsk agreements, and counter-productive position of the Russian side. He emphasized that the recognition by the Russian Federation the pseudo-elections, organized by terrorists on November 2, jeopardized the implementation of Minsk agreements.
He draw attention to the continuation of Russian aggression, numerous cases of violation of non-use of force and sovereignty of Ukraine by the RF as through direct support of militants by regular units of the Russian army as well as arms supplies, and also by sending so-called humanitarian convoys without proper coordination with the Ukraine and the International Committee of the Red Cross .
EP deputies confirmed support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine and condemned Russia’s aggression. They expressed hope that despite Russia’s military and economic pressure, Ukraine will be able to form promptly the parliamentary coalition and the Government for further urgent reforming of the state system in line with European standards and-based on the implementation of Association Agreement.
Leading political forces of the EP affirmed the EU's readiness to support Ukraine in addressing the current challenges in the spirit of solidarity and association. They also stressed the importance of providing emergency humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.
