Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Kostiantyn Yelisieiev participated in the meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission at the NATO Headquarters in Brussels

On 24 June 2010 Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Kostiantyn Yelisieiev participated in the meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission at the NATO Headquarters in Brussels. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of NATO Deputy Secretary General Claudio Bisogniero.

At the meeting the Deputy Minister informed representatives of the Alliance about the main results of the implementation of internal and foreign policy priorities of Ukraine. The attention was paid to the outcome of the first 100 days of the presidency of Victor Yanukovych and activity of the new Government of Ukraine. The efforts of the Ukrainian leadership, directed at ensuring economic stability and conducting appropriate reforms, fighting corruption and carrying out judicial reform, were marked out.

During the discussion on the foreign policy priorities of Ukraine it was emphasized that the European integration course of Ukraine remains unchanged. The member-states of the Alliance were informed about the Ukraine-EU negotiations on association agreement, free-trade zone and visa-free regime.

Particular attention was paid to renewal of strategic partnership with Russia. The NATO side welcomed reconstruction of the atmosphere of trust in relationship between Kyiv and Moscow.

The both sides marked out success of joint efforts aimed at strengthening practical orientation of the distinctive partnership between Ukraine and NATO. The sides expressed joint intention to further develop bilateral political dialogue and cooperation in the spheres of mutual interest.

The Alliance confirmed its readiness to continue assisting Ukraine in pursuing internal reforms in the framework of implementation of the Annual National Program for 2010.

Ukraine’s contribution to strengthening peace and security was highly appreciated at the meeting. The both sides agreed to further cooperate in counteracting traditional and new security threats and challenges.

In the course of his visit to Brussels Mr. Kostiantyn Yelisieiev had separate meetings with the NATO Deputy Secretary General Claudio Bisogniero and Assistant NATO Secretary General for Political Affaires and Security Policy Dirk Brengelmann.
