12 March 2015 20:44

While the meeting the main attention was paid to the preparation for the 196th session of UNESCO Executive Board in the context of the Resolutions “Follow-up by UNESCO of the situation in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea (Ukraine)” adopted at the previous sessions of this governing body of the Organization, and also to the analysis of the opportunities for using the instruments available in the Organization for monitoring the situation in the sphere of UNESCO’s competence in response to Ukraine’s anxiety which is shared by the majority Member States of the Executive Board.

The Ukrainian side expressed the hope that UNESCO will react to the threats, connected with the Russian annexation of the peninsula one year ago, to keeping the cultural heritage in the Crimea, in particular the Ukrainian objects of UNESCO’s World Heritage List situated on the peninsula.

Besides the parties exchanged the thoughts about possible parameters of cooperation in celebrating in 2015 the 70th Anniversary of UNESCO, anniversaries of historic events and of eminent personalities celebrated by Member States and Associate Member in association with UNESCO in 2016-2017, and also other issues of the cooperation with the Secretariat of UNESCO on the level of the National Commission of Ukraine for UNESCO and the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the Organization.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine in the French Republic and the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to UNESCO Oleg Shamshur took part in the meeting.
