On 8 April 2010 Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mr. Kostiantyn Yelisieiev met with NATO’s Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy Dirk Brengelmann who was on one-day visit to Ukraine.
During the meeting the Sides exchanged views on the wide range of issues concerning cooperation between Ukraine and NATO in practical spheres.
Attention was focused on fulfillment of earlier reached agreements and implementation of the currents projects. The importance of Annual National Program for 2010 as an instrument to advance reforms was specially underlined. The other topics discussed during the meeting included prospects of cooperation in the strengthening international peace and security, counter terrorism, cyber-crimes and piracy, interaction in the spheres of science, high technologies, environmental protection, disaster response etc.
Dirk Brengelmann confirmed NATO’s wish to have active relations with the new President and Governemnt of Ukraine. He expressed the Alliance’s readiness to render Ukraine comprehensive assistance in implementation of internal reforms aimed at developing democratic institutions and reaching high social and economic standards. He also highly appreciated Ukraine’s role as a contributor of international security.
